THE WALL STREET OF THE ROCKIES APP, WEBSITE AND WALKING TOUR
Denver history is at your feet along 17th Street. One of Denver’s most overlooked treasures is a set of wonderful medallions embedded in the ground along Denver’s 17th St., south of Union Station. These 42 in-ground markers are just waiting for technology to tell their tales about olden Colorado, improving the cultural quality of life for all. We are in the process of building the website @ http://wallstreetoftherockies.com/ and we are looking for funding to complete the website and develop the app.
The Wall Street of the Rockies app shall establish 17th Street as a free public destination, placemaking and strengthening the local community and augmenting the mental health of interested Coloradans. Already, each location has been geotagged, creating a new resource for spatial analysis and integration into atlases and geographic information systems.
The Wall Street of the Rockies online component offers Americans of all backgrounds access to lifelong learning opportunities. It will help those living at risk in Denver better understand where they live and improves economic education. Many of the markers feature stories of people who have lived in poverty for part of their lives. The Wall Street of the Rockies is available to Denver’s most vulnerable people and has the ability to enhance education, better preparing those interested for success. Each easy-to-digest medallion education module finishes with thoughtful and inspiring quiz questions.
The Wall Street of the Rockies is a great story and an existing urban destination with a virtually nonexistent technical presence. The website and app offer a digital encyclopedia of Denver history. It will take this landmark into the 21st century in a new, free-to-all family-friendly, easy-to-use format.
